Description

The second treasure of Dashur. A fair, but not unreasonable drive from Cairo gets you to Dashur. Here you will first see the Red Pyramid. This is the second pyramid of Pharaoh Sneferu. This one, unlike his Bent Pyramid, worked out perfectly. When visiting Egypt, I strongly suggest the trip to Dashur. This area is little visited and without all of the touristy crush and pressure of Giza. Amazingly, I had both pyramids to myself, and not until I exited the Red Pyramid, and was ready to leave the area, did a German group drive up. You can enter this pyramid and go all the way into the innermost chamber. You can just make out the entrance, about 1/3 up. Be prepared to descend a very steep and low passage to the exact center of the structure. Claustrophobes do not apply.
