Description

Death Valley Dunes, Sinuous sculptures of sand 4/6 In May / June 2007 we made a trip through California with a RV-Motor-home. One of the many highlights was Death Valley. Death Valley is an unique, but very hot place in the US. Early in the morning we made a hike for a couple of hours exploring the sand dunes (close to Stovepipe Wells), including climbing the tops of a few of them. Light was that morning a little bit strange, with some haze in the direction towards the mountains. I made a few photo’s and 6 of them I have turned into a duo-tone in the following way. After adjusting the full color in the normal way with Photo-Shop, I converted the photo into a black & white by using the mode: Greyscale. If required , I did some tuning in this phase. The B&W image is converted with Photo-Shop into a “Duo-tone” with the following settings. Ink 1, Black Ink 2, Pantone 453C If required some fine tuning can be made in this phase as well. As final touch, a simple frame for the series of photo’s. By means of this selection / conversion in photo-shop, the amount of white is strongly reduced and the photo turned into a “warmer toned” photo, at least in my opinion and fit for purpose aiming at a more abstracted view on this warm place early in the morning!! Hope you like it, Your comments are highly appreciated, Have a very nice week Henk

The post work is brilliant! It definitely is a warmer shot this way. I also like how you got that wind-swept curl on the top of the major dune. The riffling is great as well.
