Description

I stood on this side of the canal with my back to the Mine facing the remains of the Brick & Tile works that was situated here at Blists Hill. After the Blast Furnaces were finally blown out in 1912, and the canal closed down soon after, the Mines and Brick and Tile Works limped along between the two world wars. In 1941 the Mines were abandoned, and followed in the 1950's by the Brick & Tile Works. In 1952 railway pasenger service ceased, and the last goods train ran in 1960. The Brick & Tile works covered most of the present re-created upper town, including buildings now housing the plumbers and tinsmith and foundry. The picture shows the far side of the canal where remains kilns and dry sheds but now exist at ground level only. A good weekend to you all, thanks for taking a look. all comments welcome( even ones telling me my sky is washed out ) Thanks ALAN.

This is a marvelous shot. It has the old and abandoned, retired and put out to pasture side and then the sun beams down, brings out hope and life and a sparkle of all that is good. I like this.

Well, you chose an excellent composition, but with a very great challenge. From all I know, it looks like you made the best compromise and got a great capture of the reflection. Very possibly, though, a graduated neutral density filter would have also gotten a beautiful star reflection through the trees saving from the washout. Don't know for sure, just a thought. Again, your photo journalism is appreciated and admired.

I don't mind the sky. Ours looks like that nine months out of the year. This is a very cool shot. I love the history, and your presentation is wonderful!

Your sky's washed out, just thought I'd let you know, roflmao. This shot is a lot better than mine, taken from the same spot I might add, the reflection in the water shows what the sky should look like anyway. When you are walking about(as much as we did that day) you have to limit what you carry with you. This site is afterall over a mile long, so you take bare essentials with you, not a bag full of filters. I think this is very atmospheric Alan and coupled with the narrative quite excellent. Great stuff. Bravo!!!!!

This is a wonderful shot. The sky, and the rays, caught the mood perfectly and create the 'Stimmung'. Your narrative is also very interesting. It always seems to help when a little background info is provided to fully appreciate the picture.

Awesome capture with the sunbeams and the light reflection in the water! I didn't even notice the sky until I went back and read your narrative (which I appreciate you doing)! :^)
