Description

Watching this, for me was certainly one of the highlights of the day out. I'd never seen work like this other than documentries on Tele. jeffG7BRJ posted THE FOUNDRY some days ago and gave a detailed account of the processes, I don't wish to repeat to much. Small jobbing foundries like this produced products from Statues to door-stops. The Coalbrooke Company on this site produced high quality castings. The process used at Blists Hill is called greensand casting. They are made on a moulding bench then placed on the floor which, when full, is ready for casting, normally once a week. Iron is melted in the tall cylindrical cupola at the back of the foundry. From there the molten iron is collected in ladles inside the foundry and poured into the prepared moulds. When the iron is cooled, the moulds are broken open, the casting removed and the whole process begins again. Thanks for dropping by. Good evening to you all. Thanks for latest comments I enjoy reading them.

An excellent capture Alan, you really portray the mood of the foundry. We had a foundry near where I lived as a little girl, I can still remember the distinct smell. You shot is worderful! I could use a bit of this heat right now. Freezing cold in Bay. Happy night for you. Hugs. Diane. xx

A beautifully captured image. The lighting and shading you have captured create an atmosphere that reflects this job to perfection. Hard, hot, and dirty. No white shits and ties here. Excellent commentary!

Good work on this fine report. The photograph illustrates so much, and the composition grabs the attention of the viewer, completely.

Another awesome shot! I like the plays of light and shadows and how it portrays the heat they must be feeling with that molten iron. Fantastic work! :^)

Another example of how you are good at light and shadow work, with just enough foreground detail to keep the scene 3d.
