Description
The Trevithick Locomotive. In 1802-3, Richard Trevithick built a steam railway locomotive at Coalbrookdale, which is now recognised as being the first in the world. Evidence of its existence includes a drawing in the Science Muesum, London, and entries in a ledger in the Ironbridge Gorge Museum's archives listing various components which Trevithick purchased from the Coalbrookdale Company for its construction.
Although I have included the history of 'The First Steam Locomotive in the World', this shot is about the chap who actually demonstrates it working. I have dated him using PSP but he looked the part even before I did that. When I saw him stood on the footplate of the engine, I could visualise him, 200 years ago getting up steam to start the days work. His narrative was very informative as well, I don't know how many times a day they(the staff) tell their stories or act out their parts and demonstrate the crafts of days long gone, but I thank them, each and every one of them. I know I learnt a lot of history and I wish they'd have had these places when I was a lad, I might have learned a lot more. Enough already.
Thank you for stopping by for a look and for any comments you care to make(go on, don't be shy).
May the sun shine down on you, where ever you are.
May the bird of paradise fly up your nose.
Have a nice weekend y'all.

Very funny how we visualize things and people in B&W for 19th century even if they were in colors ;o)))

Great close-up of the guy telling the story. If I remember there were quite a number or young lads gathered round to listen with real interest and like you have said this sort of thing is far better for kids to learn than getting motivated to absorb a text book like we had to. You have captured the half scale model bridge in the background which was built to learn more of how iron bridges were built back then. Excellent image and info again Jeff.
