Description

"They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old. Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn. At the going down of the sun and in the morning We will remember them". From "The Fallen" ~ by Laurence Binyon. I dedicate this work to all victims of conflict. Diane.

Lovely image and dedication, Di.... here in the US for Veterans Day one can sometimes buy paper poppies to wear on your lapel for a contribution to a veterans organization. Perfect image for this dedication!

I saw several reports on the French television earlier today about World War I, and the massive contribution of English, American, Australian, Canadian and even Nepali recruits to 'the Great War'( La Grande Guerre ) , as we call it here, and I am all the more touched as I've just seen that not only did you place this wonderful symbol of the poppy , but you put into words what I was feeling. You're so thoughtful, dear Diane, and may your words be read by many over here on Renderosity. Have a nice evening and thank you very much for reminding us of this celebration and dreadful event at the time, all over Europe.

A beautiful, papery red poppie. I say papery because they always look like they are made from crepe paper. And lovely words to acompany. Stay safe in your howling gales. Chocolate hugs:0)bonita

WOW...what a gorgeous flower! You know, Diane, you have this way with flowers (and other stuff) that is astounding at times. I can tell that you enjoy doing this because it shows and rubs off on us viewers. On top of that, you use an already exquisite image/capture to this date, now...in the past, and in the future! This image works wonderfully on so many levels! In short, it's utterly fantastic, and yeah...being a color fanatic, I have to say that the colors captured here are fantastic! Now as for howling gales and all of that...ugh...but I'm glad that you're safe! Big hugs to you and a big thank you for sharing this!

Alone somebody that suffered the war can understand the ridiculous thing that it is... The humans believe that the war is the solution of the conflicts. to see who wins or who loses. Myself has suffered a war against England for the famous Islands Malvinas. and although I take care God of not being in the battle front, I also suffered wrongly it... Today is for my one of the privileges but big, and the pride and the happiness of my heart to have the best friend in the world, she is noble AND Englishwoman of pure stock... their full life my sky of stars. Me the master to her and their husband!! I also bend to this homage... and I receive like tribute this flower, for the suffering, on behalf of points that you/they have suffered it Thank you Diana!! You will always be our queen!!! We love you Roby I hope my translator makes his work well

A timely dedication, Diane. I often headed Remembrance Day parades when I started as a police officer in the late 1970s, but remember being told, in a whisper, at one such celebration, by a sergeant to remove the poppy, which I was wearing in my tunic lapel. I suggested firmly that he should speak up so that the veterans and relatives could hear him. I did not tnen, nor even less now, see that wearing a poppy was against my oath as a police officer to carry out my duty 'without fear or favour'. Respect for the dead is as old as mankind. Respect for those who gave up their lives, or gave up the quality of their lives, for ours, is only human. I continued, in uniform, to salute passing funeral corteges ( whether Christian, Jewish, Muslim, Sikh or little or no faith at all ) until I retired, no matter what my supervisory officers said about 'Political Correctness'. I always told them that I treated everyone, the way that I hoped that they would treat me. They had probably never heard of the 'Golden Rule'. By the time I retired most older police officers, in uniform did wear a poppy, as a sign of respect. The modern uniform is, however, not conducive to wearing it, although possiby the 'hook-an-eye' version may make the display easier now. Your dedication is therefore very welcome, Di. Regards, John.
