Description

The tears came Around midnight Out of nowhere Dripping On the words Of a Bukowski poem The hospital room Dimly lit Gave no answers To the origin Of these salty Waterdrops I was not sad Charles can make you Smile I had a kind Laughter Inside of me No feelings Of depression I was on the way To slay My cancer dragon Be victorious Maybe tears Of relief But there is No relief It will all end One day anyway And no joy Could explain The slow waterfall Happiness The last thing On my mind I got out of bed Wheeling My fluid bags To the bathroom Looking into A life-size mirror I was crying No doubt Hollow eyes Deep inside A thin skull Overflowing I looked closer Reading Incomprehension But no anxiety Behind the mirrors To my soul It was a mystery Tears were falling And i stood there Still Inquiring Not understanding. And then it hit me Pain Dumb Pointless Purposeless Physical pain Nothing more Nothing less And I smiled At my tears Over the simplicity Of the riddle Sometimes We think Too much Sometimes The human body Declares independence Dirk Thank you so much for reading this far and any comments you might have

Sometimes the human soul declares independence as well. Your wisdom and courage are inspiring; your poetry always powerful and insightful.

Powerful words from a very brave man. And, as gateman said, Welcome Home! We missed you. Bunny

Welcome home, Dirk. A touching poem. You have been assaulted both internally and externally. But you are here. Thank God.

What a moving tribute/lament! Beatifully crafted and sadly a moment of agonizing reality... Stay strong brave warrior.... Much love and prayers, Ariana

I have no words, Dirk. I've tried. None come. No adjectives, or phrases, or attempts at something meaningful, are nearly sufficient. So, instead, a wordless, tender, joyous embrace with brimming, overflowing eyes.

So this is where you have been. I didn't know. I am glad you are on the other side of this. Prayers, and soft hugs for a gentle warrior.
