Description

I repainted Bazze's Spitfire in the colors of Robert Stanford Tuck. I did this one while I was thinking of my favorite poem. High Flight Oh! I have slipped the surly bonds of earth And danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings; Sunward I've climbed, and joined the tumbling mirth Of sun-split clouds - and done a hundred things You have not dreamed of - wheeled and soared and swung High in the sunlit silence. Hov'ring there I've chased the shouting wind along, and flung My eager craft through footless halls of air. Up, up the long delirious, burning blue, I've topped the windswept heights with easy grace Where never lark, or even eagle flew - And, while with silent lifting mind I've trod The high untresspassed sanctity of space, Put out my hand and touched the face of God. Pilot Officer Gillespie Magee No 412 squadron, RCAF Killed 11 December 1941 Thank you for taking the time to look, I truly appreciate it!

Very nice work. Amazing clouds, so real - as well as the trails high in the sky. Very cool!!

My favorite plane! There's something about a spitfire that's kinda sleek and sexy. The clouds are nice, but I especially like the way the paint is worn where the panels meet.

Ann outstanding model and this poem has a special meaning for me. I had a friend who was a pilot instructor who was killed while teaching someone to fly. She was an amazing woman who wanted to fly and did. We had been friends all through school and as adults. I couldn't mourn her. How can you when someone dies doing something they love? Thanks for reminding me of this beautiful poem and of a lady who took big bites out of life! Lea
