A collaberated work between myself and Chrissy, aka BibbyBear, for the selective colour forum challenge set by pushinfaders.
The shot was taken on Saturday in Chester. As we were walking back to the car with Chrissy's son Rob, we saw three fire engines that had been called out due to a fire alarm being set off at one of the nearby clothes stores. luckily this was a false alarm so there was no fire damage and nobody was hurt or in any danger. After talking to some of the firemen we were allowed to take photos of them, this being one taken from a balcony.
Postwork includes obvious desaturation, selective colour, sharpening layer, background blur layer, and some dodge and burn in the foreground cobbles.
Thanks for looking and any comments and critique are more than welcome!

Well what can I say babe? I loved this photo, along with many others you took that day, as soon as I saw it and I'm glad you started to work on this one first. I may have done the postwork, but only because you had already come up with the idea of selective colouring - I just wanted to show off the cobbled street more by sharpening them slightly - nothing that I have done you could not have done yourself, the difference being time.... your spare time is so scarce in the evenings these days whereas I am sitting alone in my flat with nothing else to do (except wait for you!!) This is a superb shot with an excellent POV - you managed to capture the whole scene with the people in the background still going about their business like nothing was happening!! The colours are brilliant as is the clarity in this shot and an apt choice for the forum challenge - perhaps some feedback from the forum would be useful to us both on this one? Hugs Chrissy xox

This is seriously seriously cool. Your compo is spot on and I love the selective colouring. I think the yellow has a bit too much of an orange tinge to it otherwise it's really rad. I love the blue lights on top they break to intensity of the red. It's actually movie like in it's quality. I might've shot this in portrait view in order to get the length of the street in. However the space on the right is fine as I can imagine the engine driving out of the photo, combined with the movement of the fire fighters you might think they are actually moving to get into the truck and leave anyway :)

A superb joint work, Carl. I do not know the technical things you talk about... but I do know a very fine image when I see one! Hat's off to you and dear Chrissy for this work. I have the greatest respect for our fire service. I hope you will present this team of firefighters with your work. I can see it taking pride of place on the station wall! Seriously GOOD! Hugs for you both. Diane. xx
