Description

I took this picture of this robin-chat(Cossypha niveicapilla) last Sunday in Burgers Zoo. The robin-chats are small insectivorous birds in the genera Cossyphicula and Cossypha . They were formerly in the thrush family Turdidae, but are more often now treated as part of the Old World flycatcher Muscicapidae. Another species, the White-bellied Robin-chat, is also known as a robin-chat but is found in the monotypic genus Cossyphicula. These are African woodland dwelling species, but some have become adapted to sites around human habitation. The Dutch name is sneeuwkaproodborsttapuit.

The closest I could come to in the bird books was a Redstart. But they are found in the north and west of the UK, with the greatest concentrations in Wales. It is also included on the Amber List as a species with unfavourable conservation status in Europe where it is declining. I don't know if this fits the bill or not. Its a gorgeous bird and a song bird at that. I would love to hear its call. Excellent shot!
