Description
The City of Ghent, Flanders, Belgium
aka Gent, Ganda, and Xanadu :)
Clockwise
Roland the Bell. In the Middle Ages Roland tolled the knell of parting day, but also whenever there was news. He's retired now, sitting here cosily in the belfry square only yards from where he used to work. You could compare him to Big Ben.
The Graslei was the High Street. "Gras" means "grass" (No!), and "lei" means "canal". 700 years ago, long before the Americans were born, merchants would trade herbs and other goods along the quay.
A knight just standing there, guarding a souvenir shop. (There's no one inside, though.)
The statue of the Van Eyck Brothers. Jan and Hubert van Eyck were the painters of pictures such as the Adoration of the Holy Lamb, the most famous painting ever.
(Some of the pictures in this series have already been posted in this gallery in full.)

The knight is really not what I would expect to see there. The bell is huge. All shots are really interesting. So much to see in this city.
