Description

Guadalupe Mountains National Park McKittrick Canyon Ok, no more national geographic explanations of the canyon...lol... :) Texas Madrone trees. I took several pictures of these trees along the trail. I want one at my home here in North Texas, but have been told they will not grow in my area... :( I put together the collage so you would not have to sit through Madrone uploads for the next week... :) I remember someone uploaded a Madrone from somewhere on the west coast. I need to inquire from my local nursery if that species might do well here... Maybe...you got have hope!.... :) Let me know what you think. I resized and cropped these images. I also added frames and a border to the background. Look at the picture full size, for best view! All comments and advice are welcome. If you are seeing this series for the first time, I explain all about this place with the first four pictures posted. Thank y'all for all the comments and advice on my last post. Y'all are great. Todd

We are in zone 7 and from my garden book it appears so is this park. But perhaps the desert conditions differ too much from our climate. They are lovely trees with lovely bark...nice collage.

These are beautiful trees. Yes, they grow in Washington State near the coast. I always liked these trees.

The colors and textures of this tree are very lovely. I have always liked them too. I never really listen when people say something won't grow in my area. To me, that's a challenge and I usually meet it head-on. :-)

Beautiful collage, Todd! I thought Madrone/Arbutus as soon as I saw this group, but I don't think ours will work in your area. All of ours grow within half a mile or so of the sea, and root themselves into rocky areas. Are you close to the sea?

cmolsen2002, To answer your question, we would have to define close. Here in Texas we measure by how long it takes to get to some other place, in time and not distance. So as time goes it is just a short six hour or so drive to the Gulf of Mexico. Not to far!... :) Not really a sea though, more like a muddy spot in the middle of Mexico, Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama and Florida. With Cuba floating around out there somewhere!... LOL.... Todd

I'm sure there are many images of Madrona and Madrone trees here on RR, but I know of one for sure! Here's mine but I doubt these would do well in Texas. I like yours! This hike is getting better and better by the second!
