Description
Took this shot yesterday of grazing deer at Shiloh National Military Park, where back in April 1862 one of the bloodiest battles of the American Civil War took place. The entire area is preserved and remains as it was left following the unbelievable carnage that took place there.
At one time, this beautiful autumn field was littered with the bodies of fallen soldiers and horses. Yet yesterday, although the fields remain as they always were, the only activity to be found were grazing wild turkey and deer.
Such a contrast.
The late afternoon sun mixed in with the abundance of autumn color was simply overwhelming. Yet as peaceful and serene as it was yesterday, you could still detect the shadows of the past as they were rustling in the blowing leaves.
Happy Autumn to all!

Your words stir the passions of those who have lived in or traveled to those now peaceful valleys, hills, and rivers where family fought family not so very long ago. A beautiful scene. I always wondered why we don't have a special day set aside to honor this war in our country.

wonderful shot! Even Shelby Foote himself said Shiloh is the best kept and least intruded by memorials, left natural. The color and DOF are are great backdrop here!
