this image comes from a class i took in apparel design. the project required that students use the design vocabulary of a previous decade to create a line of garments that would hold appeal in the current fashion realm. i chose the sixties. in researching the clothing styles and culture of the time, i learned that anything having to do with outer space was very hip, since space exploration was still relatively new. shows like barbarella helped inspire some of these outfits. i also made vintage designs more 'space age' by changing the fabrics to plastics and vinyls. i intended these garments to be used as evening wear for the self-confident woman. they are designed to make her the center of attention at the night club and the object of men's desire. the plate was rendered in photoshop, over a scanned drawing.
