Description

Some time ago a group of machines were sent to Mars, they were intended to pave the way for a human mission that would be laying the foundations for a permanent colony. Something went wrong, and the robots were seemingly lost. The resulting fallout trashed the follow-up mission, so it was another 20 years before people once again set their sights on Mars. This manned mission was less ambitious, but wished to find out what happened to the earlier mission. You can see what they found here: http://www.renderosity.com/mod/gallery/index.php?image_id=1471330 http://www.renderosity.com/mod/gallery/index.php?image_id=1491292 This stepped up the desire to find more, so probes moved into wider search patterns. This was a quick shot from one of those probes has just returned this image of a partially buried machine. What is visible of the machine is recognizable to the planners of the original mission: This is one of the construction robots sent to Mars 20 years ago. Scientists are thrilled, and already making plans to retrieve the machine in order to examine its programing and system logs. Everyone is suddenly hopeful that we may finally learn What Happened Here? ------------ Thanks for taking a look. This was built in Bryce, and rendered about a half dozen times with different textures, these were then composited together in Photoshop in order to get this dusty and varied look. Comments, suggestions, complaints, or even "you hack knock it off" remarks are of course welcome. Have a great evening!
