Description

I put out some fresh peanuts this morning, and was suddenly invaded by a horde of Blue Jays, which brought in the curiosity of other birds. This Red Bellied Woodpecker likes to raid the sunflower seeds, but had to check out this action, as well. I didn't set out with this shot in mind, but was simply taking shots of all the excitement as they swarmed around the two piles. After I went to edit them, I came across this great shot (blurry, I know, but I was shooting through a window - sorry) of the woodpecker looking right at the griffin-pedastals for this bench. I couldn't resist playing with it a bit! Hope you enjoy, and I hope you all had a good Thanksgiving Weekend!

The woodpecker's splash of red is a brilliant element of this capture...the colors in general are great, as are the textures and composition as a whole. It's a tiny bit blurry, but I think that adds to it because you have that "just caught on the cuff" feeling that makes for some great "you are there" qualities. It's nicely raw, and the textures are fantastic...
