Description

A bleak, monochromatic and brooding piece that I have had around for a few months without ever reaching a satisfactory finish to the whole thing. The Reference From the statement made famous by Napoleon Bonaparte when he cleared the rabble from the streets as they marched on the Tuileries on the 5th October 1795 (or to be precise: 13 Vendermiaire, An IV in the Revolutionary calendar). Charged with protecting the revolutionary Government, Napoleon ordered artillery into key points around the Tuileries, when the excited mob approached into point blank range he commented 'We will give them a whiff of grape', the resulting barrage killed 200 and wounded 400 more. Needless to say, the rabble were dispersed. The irony of this was that in exercising his duty to protect the Government he set up the conditions for seizing absolute power within a few years. The Illustration I have updated the concept into a futuristic science fiction setting, showing the streets at sunset after having been made peaceful. I have also reworked the irony of the Napoleonic incident using the observed principle that, with only a handful of exceptions, those who pursue revolution seem to end up with a government that is worse than the one they started with. The small minority of exceptions would include Gandhis peaceful revolution in India at the end of WWII, the American Revolution plus a handful of others. Perhaps the classic anti-revolutionary case is best demonstrated by the communist system that swept the world for seventy years. This irony is represented by the poster that forms the centreline of this dark artwork that says only: 'Che Sux'. The rest is up to the viewer. Design Credits Figures V3 and M3, Uzilite Armour (I am getting my monies worth out of this purchase), Ruins of Alecto, Adobe Church in the background. Post in Photoshop. The small Autonomous Sentry Vehicles (ASV) are my own design (in Sketchup).
