I put together this illustration together for a �Space Cowboys� challenge over at the DAZ site. In the end I withdrew the work as being inappropriate (don�t ask), but I always quite liked it because of the reference- the Duke has to be one of favourite actors. The Reference Based on the 50�s movie of the same name, it was part of the trilogy of westerns made famous by John Wayne in the old west theme and since the title derives from the movie, I updated the scenario into a science fiction setting. The song from the movie title is still the marching song of the US Cavalry and in the English speaking world the �Yellow Ribbon� theme is almost a universal concept of demonstrating a remembrance of a loved one who has gone into harm�s way. The Illustration Because there is no visual references except a pilot and his lady, the viewer has to interpret the scene to derive the sense of pathos. Once the title of the work is factored into the picture, the simple starkness of the composition needs little explanation and extra detail would really add nothing to the work. Design Credits I can�t remember if I used V3 or V4, but the pilot is M3 clothed in Major Cache�s armour and my old standby pilot�s helmet.
