Description

***Together, I and Kye and Lucy are beautiful in this world which is not of this world nor the one after. Nor of the one between nor of the one inside. Where uneating with flattened stomachs we try to find softness. Where someone in sickness is stealing an apple. Where pomegranates. Wash your handkerchief in somebody's bloodwound. Where takers are catchers and catchers aren't takers. Where naked bones tear up the bedsheets.*** I first read those lines in a trendy restaurant on Vodickova Street. I'd gone shopping with a friend and we decided that it was time to get some chocolate in our systems. I'd purchased a Czech novel, called simply "KYE" at the local Palac Books, and was immediately awed by the rampant and stark beauty of the stream of consciousness prose. The author is Lukas Tomin. He was born in Prague in 1963 and spent his adolescent years in the dissident community of the 1970s, before his family moved to England due to continual police harassment. He later lived in Paris and Montreal, and returned to Prague in 1991, where he lived until his death in 1995. Prague is a writer's city, and since I'm a writer, I'm particularly keen of the writerly vibe that exists here...perhaps THAT is why it is often so impossible for me to leave. Lazarska Street ties into that. There's nothing spectacular about that street. It goes only from one end of this photo to the other...and no more...and yet it captures me whenever I see it and I always think of the writers who live and have lived here in Prague...Kafka and Tomin foremost among them, in my book, though there are so many others. If this picture is "about" anything, I think it's that...the writers...the artists...the nameless and soon-to-be named people who might have walked Lazarska Street, or dribbled chocolate cream onto newly purchased books while sitting in a trendy Italian Restaurant. As always, thank you for viewing, commenting and I hope you enjoy this image as much as I enjoyed making it, and rhapsodizing about one of my favorite writers. And for all you ladies out there, Lukas Tomin was kinda cute too!

You are a true writer, and a most talented one! The way you have garnished this lovely image with your words is simply fantastic, and gives the image so much glory and meaning. I consider this image beautiful, not only because of the aesthetic beauty, but the very fact that you say it will be about the "nameless", but more importantly the soon to be named. Giving voice and acknowledgement to all those that go unnamed and unheard is a gift...the best gift of all... and if this special place, this special street in Prague can inspire the celebration for this occurence, as Gayatri Spivak would have said, then a Grand Celebration it should be! Splendid idea my friend! You are so full of wisdom, power, creativity and talent!

Chip. you really need to get published - and soon! Hope you are keeping these thoughts down in an orderly fashion AND backed up somewhere safe. Though I now you love your Neameans to death, 'An American in Prague' has more saleability, as a photo journal, maybe, rather than that novel (at first) Well that's my twopennyworth. Im from the U.K. (well an island near enough as damn it) and your style hits home with me if that's anything to be happy with? I don't know! Oh - the night pic is good too- you can make out the architecture in silhouette which marks the street out as not just anywhere at night. I spent some time at your age in Amsterdam and then Gothenburg in Sweden with friends when I was travelling and I had the same sort of buzz.

Well, I zoomed in and found all kinds of interesting detail hidden within this beautiful picture...my favorite being the window filled with beautiful flowers...I love the lights on this street and I would be most interested in seeing the image in the daytime as well...Your writing as always is superb!

Often it is little streets like this that great journeys begin. Or at least that's what Bilbo the Hobbit might say. I love the light and energy in this night shot. So clear and colourful, especially what I believe is a florist shop in the lower right. And of coarse, what street is not complete without tram tracks? Got to go, my cat demands to be fed.
