Description

the echidna is a relative of the anteater that lives in the americas. it too eats ants and termites. it lays a single egg which hatches after 10 days, the young then called a puggle, suckles from 2 milk patches that are in the mothers pouch. then she digs a burrow for it and she returns every 5 days until the young is weaned usually about 7 months. this one was taken in featherdale wildlife park sydney australia. they are one of only 4 types of this mammal the most famous one being the platypus.
