Does he know what he is seeing? Does he even wonder about it? I don't know.
All I know is that I took a lot of bird shots yesterday, just to test a new lens, and this is one of the results (cropped out of a larger image). Near my workplace a lot of pigeons, seaguls, ducks, and swans congregate, as they often get fed there - which makes them ideal subjects for a quicky photo shoot during my lunchbreak. Most of the time I think these "test shots" turn out rather boring, as I mainly take them to learn about different camera settings, but this one I liked enough to post it here.
And if you are not into birds, maybe you like plants? ;-)

I adore your shot of this little lady. I am assuming lady since pigeons are difficult to sex without much probing and blood work but one of the better ways to guess is by the way they drink. A female pigeon drinks with a "sip" using the tip of the beak while a male typically will nearly sick his entire beak in the water and get it all over himself. (Works like this for most of the animal kingdom I think...at least around my house.LOL)
