Such strong personality in his face, a superb shot of this musician, dear Michel. I would love to hear him play. A wonderful photograph. I am sorry, Michel I do not know the name of this instrument. I would like to know too! I will check back later see if anyone knows. Have a beautiful night. Hugs. DiDi.

This instrument is called the Rabab, Rababah or Rbab. It is a spike fiddle, traditionally used to accompany poetry. The Bedouin version has a quadrilateral sound box covered with skin and a single horsehair string. It is played with a horsehair bow. The Moroccan variant has a boat-shaped sound box and the string may be positioned to the side of the neck. In Egypt, the sound box is made from a coconut shell. Some versions have two strings. It really is an interesting instrument and I am looking now for a web site with sound so I can hear what it sounds like! This is another wonderful capture...a portrait that is rich in character and equally rich in culture.

Great capture and I like the softening effect. If I may suggest something, I'd think of softening some of the pavement on his other side, to improve the balance. But in general it works very well to draw attention to the instrument.

Jean-Louis se joint à moi en pensée, nous restons fidèles à RR mais actuellement, en ce qui concerne J.L, déménagement oblige et plus d'internet, mon tour est pour janvier!;-)
