Description
This one is a spec picture, as suggested by one of the folks who stopped by my display at the Holiday art shows I've been doing.
It's kind of the antithesis of the angel which I just completed.
As I think about it, I think that we, as a culture, have this flirtation with the dark, with the story's antagonist. While we all admire and respect Luke Skywalker, Aragorn, Clarice Starling, Father Karras, and the surviving heroines in the "Nightmare on Elm Street" series, we peek in on their worlds to see just what kind of deviltry that Darth Vader, Gollum, Hannibal Lecter, the possessed Regan McNeil and Freddy Kruger are up to. Our sympathies don't lie with them, but as we entertain the notion that each of us are "good people", we're entertained by the mischief perpetrated by the bad guys.
Perhaps, watching their antics, and ultimately seeing them defeated gives us some sort of reassurance, as we see those epic struggles as grand examples of our own mundane bouts with the challenges life puts before us.
In any case.....here's a little dark fairy, done in the likeness of my customer's daughter, featuring her favorite colors and concepts.

A lot could be said about dark and light sides of our natures, about the concept of darkness and light as evil and good, and about the psychological meanings of all that. It would need quite some pages... So I only say that I like your image. It's great work!

Love your introduction along w/the well illustrated render. I love how the dark side surrounds the illustration yet her pose is innocent like. That's a beware sign (laughs)!! All kidding aside, a very masterful piece.
