Description

Location On Portsdown Hill at the junction of Portsdown Hill Road, Monument Lane and Nelson Lane. Inscription (Front) CONSECRATED TO THE MEMORY OF VISCOUNT LORD NELSON. BY THE ZEALOUS ATTACHMENT OF ALL THOSE WHO FOUGHT AT TRAFALGAR TO PERPETUATE HIS TRIUMPH AND THEIR REGRET 1805. FOUNDATION STONE LAID JULY 1807. Inscription (Back) THE BRITISH FLEET CONSISTED OF TWENTY SEVEN SHIPS OF THE LINE OF FRANCE AND SPAIN THIRTY THREE NINETEEN OF WHICH WERE TAKEN OR DESTROYED. Since you ask I know nothing about the horse. He was very nervous of me to start with, but I stood very still and calmly talked to him gaining his trust. Took me nearly 20 minutes to get near enough to get the shot. I don't think he is well looked after. Quite a dirty coat. Update on horse I have reported the condition of this horse to the RSPCA. They are to see that it gets better care. Thank you for looking, as always any comments or suggestions welcome 8~) **Best Viewed Full Size**

Of course being an animal lover I am really interested in that sweet horse who is putting on his best face for the photograph, and wonders why you never mentioned him LOL Apart from that I was really interested in the inscription that you made clear to us that was on the coloumn - excellent shot - hugs Jane xx

The comical look of the personable beast is marvelous. Seems he is resting his jaw on the fence post as his head is becoming too heavy to carry for much longer. Great compo.

A sad sight, muddy patch of ground , bored horse and a wired off monumet to one of Englands warrior leaders. But the photo is good !

Horrible stone? This is a monument to a great sailor, but for him we might well have been speaking French or Spanish now instead of English. Poor horse yes it does look to have minimum comfort, a muddy field and a bucket of water. Excellent capture. Bravo!!!!!

You should report the owner to the animal authorites. I have a Paint that looks like this horse, but my horse gets the best of care to the point of me going broke buying him nice winter blankets, LOL! This poor animal also looks very thin.

An excellent capture of the monument and this gorgeous Horse. It would have upset me greatly to see him in such circumstances. However, you did all the right things and gained his trust. I wish you were the owner of this beautiful horse. He would have a better life with you. He reminds me very much of toby the horse that I ride. Every single creature on the planet should be looked after properly. He is beautiful David, my heart goes out to him. Hugs. Di. xx
