That is a beauty. Really nice job with those textures. The only thing that bothers me about it is that in the image on the top, the wood just cuts across at a perfectly sharp line with a black void behind it. I'm sure that the focus of this piece wasn't on the background, but my eye did kinda go right to it. Easy fix though.

What can I say? Perfection is atcheived. "It's just something I like saying". This is a great model with great texturing and lighting. I agree with seraph135 though about the black void.

NICE! Your keen eye to detail is very appreciated. Who says you need GI to have a kick butt render?

nice! i love the metal, looks much better then the chrome texture some people seems to like...I think it would look a little better if the pommel was a little smaller, and if you remove that knob on the end..just my thoughts. And about the void, you could add a HDRI, would probably add extra realismt to it as well.

Whoowee! This is fantastic. I need to model a sword now! Only critique and this is just MO, but I would say the handle radius is a bit too small. It looks much better than I could do, mind you, but the sword blade actually continues down through the handle, and it just looks odd to me. Like I said IMO. The texturing is fantastical too. God! I need more practice!!

Thanks to all for the comments! I'm not a medieval weapons specialist, sorry about the wrong shape, it really is incorrect. It's only 3d version of one interesting detail from one Luis Royo painting. When I look at some great traditional painting, I get a lot of good ideas for 3d. This pic is just a model test render, it even doesn't have composition or background.

Good Lord... I can only hope to EVER become this good at modeling...when it comes to MAX, I'm still at the point where you use every single tutorial you can find...

Very good indeed, nice texturing the steel looks fantastic, however I would say the shadow on the floor would be a lot sharper. A lot of people prefer to use shadow maps to give a softer shadow and speed up render times, however in nature when an object is casting a shadow on a close surface, the shadow is very defined. When the object is moved further away from the surface, it produces a softer shadow.

If Royo had decided to take a shot at 3D, I sincerely doubt he'd achieve such skills. Beautiful job, also a great tribute to him! Congratulations!
