Description

As we were coming back out the trail from Eloway Fallslast weekend I noticed this tree that had been knocked down many years ago, but not killed. You can see the sharp bend it took to continue seeking the sun. But what interested me was the amount of other growth it was supporting. A lot of the things that grow on a nurse log are here, but they're not using this log for nourishment, they're just growing on the surface. That's the way it is in a rain forest. :-)

That's fascinating! I don't recall ever seeing a nurse log that wasn't dead. Cool shot!

This is a marvelous log. The greens on greens are well done and the textures are so varied.

I found nurse logs fascinating when I was in that part of the country. It is a unique ecosystem there. Life constantly renewing itself and such rich and lush undergrowth. Lovely shot, Dennis. :)

What a pretty picture this is. Boy, that nurse log has a lot of moss growing on it. I also find the angle of the tree really interesting in the way it shot up like that. Great photo!
