The weather on the coast yesterday was miserable, but I managed to get a few good lighthouse shots. This is Yaquina Head, just north of Newport, OR.
"Yaquina Head Lighthouse is one of the most popular lighthouses in the United States. There are hundreds of thousands of guests that visit every year. The tower is the tallest on the Oregon Coast - soaring 93 feet in the air. This lighthouse is the only Oregon Lighthouse with a marble floor. It stands 162 feet above sea level, and can be seen from ocean vessels as far away as 19 miles."

There is something about lighthouses that seems to appeal to everyone. This is a beautiful one and with the keepers quarters below it is really special. You have a great pov on this showing the relevant size of the tower. We have a lighthouse here on the California coast that is much like this and my favorite in California - Point Arena Lighthouse. It is 115 feet tall and I have climbed to the top a couple of times. I can't any longer because of my health but I can tell you that standing at the top of one of these mighty lighthouses is something you will never forget. Great shot.

I was there this summer . . . extraordinarily beautiful spot. The lighthouse lens is a treasure, a special Fresnel lens. Wonderful place on a sunny day! Heceta Head may be my favorite in Oregon

Oh that is some tall lighthouse! Much much taller then the one I visited here in Maryland L Great photo it turned out wonderful!

The weather on the Coast was miserable in December? I can hardly imagine! :) This is a great shot. I love the foggy background - it gives the lighthouse a nice moody look.

This is a wonderfully kept lighthouse! It looks like a first order fresnel light. Such a cloudy day, a lighthouse would come in handy :)
