Description

Captured 7/14/07 very early in the morning, within walking distance of my domicile. Thanks to information provided by my friend Babuci, this is a cycad plant, a class of gymnospermous tropical shrub and tree resembling thick-stemmed palms. This species of tree grows only one cone, which contains fleshy seeds, and it sprouts directly up from the center of the trunk. Don't bother with a full size view, because this is as big as it gets. Have a whiz of a work week.

The clarity is excellent and it must be great to see palm trees near to your home, with warm sunny weather surrounding you. Thank you for sharing, as these sort of images do have the feel good factor - hugs Jane xx

That is the strangest thing I've seen, but then I don't see palm trees often. If I saw that in these parts I would suspect my pine trees had been mingling with my fern fronds...

It is a Cycad plant. I have one in my garden, but never had that BIG cone yet. Thanks for this shot Harry at least I know what should be. I might need to do a PH soil test, perhaps something wrong with my garden soil.

Seems much more disciplined than a pine cone. even has a geometric prolate spheroid shape.

Around here, it is sold as a Sago Palm. On the wikipedia page, there is a picture of it almost exactly like yours. Nice shot, Harry. I've never seen one with a cone on it.

Wowwwwwwww. That is just awesome! I've never seen anything like it before. We don't get a lot of tropical plants growing outdoors around here! :) Very cool. The light is wonderful, and I like the composition. Nice!
