Description

At night, horses tromp through the winding streets of Josefov, snorting and bobbing their heads; they pull carriages behind them, ceaselessly. Locals take no notice of the horses, the carriages, or the romance that horse-drawn carriages imply. There are too many other things to draw local attention. There is rent to pay, there are chaotic oceans of tourists to cut through--especially when you're on the way home after work, or late for work because you've engaged in one too many 3-beer talks, the night before. But there are times, when the flood of tourists thins to a manageable trickle. Horses still draw their carriages, still snort and bob their heads. They trudge through emptier streets, and when you walk through Josefov with friends--or alone--you can read the shift of seasons in the trees, in the sound of the horses' hooves, and you can see it in your cold-fogged exhalations. Look beyond the winter-mist of your breath, and you'll see the night veiled paradoxes that dominate the city, but without the scores of tourists who clog the streets like the strangest (and most aggressive) breed of arterial plaque. The quiet nights in Prague are a treasure to live for. As always, thank you for reading, viewing, and commenting on this and my previous posts. Hopefully you're all on the verge of a great weekend.

Again you captured the mood of a place perfectly. Ancient towns, overcrowded with tourists, long for these few quiet hours. We do so too. Have a great weekend, Chip!

It was your night shot that first drew my attention chip. This is a sublime shot made even better whilst reading your notes. I can here the gentle echo of the clip clop of the hooves. Your work is superb as is your writing. Take care and hugs. Di. xx

I used to see this type of light display at Christmas here but it stopped a few years back when the energy crisis began in earnest. Just like all the wonderful fountains we have were turned off when the water crisis began. this is so lovely and the glowing lights reflected in the dampness are festive.

You've captured the magic alright Chip. But I can't help seeing in the foreground close up 3/4 on a Psharian dropping in from a dimensional 'travel step' to survey the 'alien' festivities. Have a good weekend and a very happy Christmas!

This is fabulous! An extraordinary perspective, with such precision and clarity of detail. The lighting is most perfect, and the lights add such a wonderful mood and atmosphere to the scene. The road looks as though almost paved with glass... a brilliant idea Chip! You are superb and so highly skilled with taking the simplest of subjects and fine tuning it into a masterpiece! The image is striking and literally draws you in, enchanting enough to make you want to follow those leading the way. Marvellous!
