Description

Senegal has nearly no trains. For long-distance travels, if you have no personal car, you can use either official (local "yellow cabs") or unofficial taxis, trucks, or so-called rapid buses (Cars rapides). The latter ones are of two main manufacturers: Renault and Mercedes. The Mercedes ones are not very old, but nearly all are in incredibly bad condition, they are painted all-white. The Renault ones, one of them is shown here, are beautiful with their bright yellow and blue colors, however their interior is very damaged too as you can see in my bottom picts. These interesting collectors approach forty years of daily use. People who travelled with these minibuses said that they are very uncomfortable, anyway they are nearly always incredibly overcrowded. I apologize for photographers hoping technically perfect pictures, because it is very difficult to make good ones (it is forbidden to take pictures of these private buses, so I had to do it very quickly). Thanks to people who commented my photos of this Senegal series:

Regardless of the quality, they still tell a very real story. As with the rest in this series, wonderful captures, and thank you for bringing them to us.

I'm glad that you were able to photograph this festive looking bus ... and I'm glad to see that no animals are suffering in this collection of fine photographs. Well done Edouard. I hope you and yours have a very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!!!

Wowwww!

A note for 3D modelers: In fact, I took these photos for a comic project, the action place of which is in Africa. With these captures I am able to illustrate the action that can take place both inside and outside these vehicles. On can think that these models can last several years from now, ten years or perhaps more because local people are very expert to maintain old models, and even to manufacture lacking OEM Renault elements if no longer available. The comic action date is ca. 2018. I am not sure if the original model is Renault Galion or Goelette. If somebody is interested to create such minibus in 3D, please contact me, I am able to send hi-resolution photos, I guess that I have one from rear. If not, I am able to reconstruct how it is, and ask somebody to verify at Dakar. For the driving cabin, I am nearly sure that Renault Industrial Vehicles could help the project if necessary.

A 3d challenge to build authentic looking models of the area. Mostly the PS texure mapping. Great to be able to travel there and get the feeling first hand. Certain to make the flavor of the upcoming graphic project to be worth waiting for.

these reminds me of the Jeepneys in the Filipines.raggedy and held together with a prayer and strong thread.I rode then everyday when I was there.in the countryside they even climb on top and hanging off the sides.luckily I was not on any that had a wreck. excellent captures and very swift action on your part
