Description

I deleted the Saguaro population and replaced it with fewer, but added singly, cactii; moved the sun down to give a more dramatic light; kept Detail at 1 AA at 3, GI relative detail at 2, GI sample quality at 3, did not engage the GI surface details button. The desert grass is still not apparently casting shadows but if you check the shadow direction they could well be casting shadows on themselves and we just can't see em due to the tiny size of those weeds.. ...Thanx for checkin up...comment as always welcome.. ... Much better Bobby. I'm sure you shouldn't have to resort to inserting them as individual objects. You may wish to check out the four points that Schmeerlap indicated in Planetside Forum, particularly point d), as shadows were being cast by other objects. If a pop has not got the "Sit On Terrain" checked they may be hanging in the air and casting shadows elsewhere rather like clouds. I imagine the improvement in Cacti texture may have something to do with sun placement.

I have never had a floating pop problem and this isn't either. I did do the pop correctly and it's something in the object I fear. The cacti improvement is due to the fact I had a tiny bit of luminence [0.03] on the plants parts for some reason and it was wiping out the displacement much like brightness does in my modeling app to bumps. Like I said I've done endless grass and tree scenes and tests and this is a first for me...check my gallery and you'll see it's not something that has been a problem. My real problem is colourblindness and I'm developing methods for dealing with that when attempting naturalist scenes.

Great job Bobby. Saguaros are all over the place here. I cannot help but feel you need to multiply your Saguaros so they cover the valley floor. Also some Palo Verde plants are needed as well as some Cholla cactus. Some Greasewood, Sage, and Jojoba plants would be appropriate also. Mesquite trees and catclaw bushes as well.
