Description

This is a view across the treacherous Columbia River Bar, from the Oregon side looking toward Washington. Yesterday's upload, North Head Lighthouse, is around behind the round hill on the far left. You can see another lighthouse straight across the river, but we didn't have time to get there on this trip. I'll get back to it sometime soon. The Columbia Bar is known as the graveyard of the Pacific. Since 1792, approximately 2,000 large ships have sunk in and around the Columbia Bar. Thanks for stopping by and any comments.

I like this scene, and especially the brown grass with the driftwood in it.

I see why it is dangerous. Looks like some shallows and drop offs and those headstrong waves must shove a boat around quite a bit. Excellent shot and raging color!

I can see why it would be considered a "graveyard". These waters look treacherous. Great shot. Aloha and Happy Holidays.

I was just thinking it looked so desolate, and then you mentioned all the ships going down. Definitely a harsh place to be.
