great work on the eyes, the chin though made me think for almost a nano second... but I am still sure this is Zhang Ziyi... one of the most beautiful chinese women around. All in all, a fantastic piece of work

she looks like Gong Li to me, but whoever she is, the drawing is another of your charcoal works that convinces me how fine charcoals can be. Your treatment of the hair as a big mass that envelops and swirls around her face is quite beautiful to my eye; and you get just enough soft detail to give it an intricate inner life. You also get hints of violet and earthen hues (your 'grays' are quite alive). The face of course is done with relatively minimal line & shade, but you know the art so well that you make it full with genuine ease; and your shading of her face, on our left, is just enough to give fullness to her rather stark, beautiful gaze. You make charcoal sing, Sheila, you give it the gown it deserves and convince me not only that I never gave nearly enough attention to this medium, but that there are those who did, and in doing so showed us that mastery & love is possible even with the simplest charred wood. A simple & beautiful piece.
