Description
This is an immature White Crowned Sparrow, do you think that’s why he’s making such a mess, LOL. He’s standing in a knothole that I keep full of seed, must have been looking for something that wasn’t on top. As he reaches full maturity the gold bar and the lighter bars just above his eyes will turn white and the two darker brown bars will turn black. These birds are here year round but I see them more in the winter months foraging for seed dropped by birds eating out of the feeders, however this one seemed to like my knothole:-).

I like sparrows as they are fearless of much larger birds.the bigger bird may scare it off, but they return after sizing the competitor up and take the food right from under the beak.excellent capture-happy new year

Well, well, you have taught me something today. I have white crowned sparrows, but I did not know this is what the juvenile looks like! Nice catch of the seeds flying and a good place to hide bird seed!
