Description

The second of Kira's dreams. The first one was 'Kira's Butterflies' thumb_1580276.jpg This time Kira has two visitors in her dream - Lehava, the fire-bird/phoenix like flying woman, and Dew-T the mechanical/robot girl. When the image was being formed in my mind it was about possibilities, wishes and constraints, as well as about choices. You may see these aspects in my image or you may see different things, perhaps associated with your own dreams or nightmares... If it evokes anything at all - leave a comment, its fascinating for me to hear about it and I'm extremely grateful to those who take the time to do so. Any other comments, technical or artistic are also very welcome. The setup is similar to the one in 'Kira's Butterflies'. The posing was done in Poser, scene setup, texturing and render in Vue. Light sources are point lights in the fire-balls, spot lights on Lehava and Dew-T and two spot lights from Lehava's hands. Glowng materials on the floating pictures and some of Lehava's clothes. The floating pictures are my creations: Back: 'Revival of the Phoenix' (watercolor). Front: 'Knotted Phoenix" (Chinese knotting and silk painting) The crystals are free from geekatplay.com (they also have some very helpful tutorials). The skin textures of Lehava and Kira were enhanced by skinVue. More dreams crowding my nights and my mind - I wish my technical skills would catch up :) Thanks for stopping by and happy new year! EDIT(01/06/08): I have posted one of the hanging pictures 'Revival of the Phoenix' thumb_1593607.jpg EDIT(01/09/08): I have posted the other hanging pictures 'Knotted Phoenix' thumb_1595370.jpg

It's like you are reading my mind or something. Robots and rebirth are common threads now-a-days. I have them both running through my stories. I find your imaginings to be intensely interesting and revealing of the human racial memory! Myth is made of images like your's. Great job!

I come from a different direction than JOE, - The heart on the floor (since it is not broken and there are no foot prints) is a lost love that she may no longer feel. The chain is the feeling that she can't let go or can't get away, the robot "could" be how she is surviving on a day to day basis. LeHava is the desire to be free of the love/guilt, the planets the desire to be ANY where but where she is. All the Phoenix images just points to the same desire to be reborn and be free. The door, while it appears to be there is not, the reflection might be another is/has come into her life. I don't see much with the crystals in the color they are. All that said...excellent image!!!

Visually, I find this image impressive. I like everything about it. The walls (one mirrored, one invisible) gives it a very special dimension. The color contrasts are also great. For me, Dew-T represents the mundane aspects of life, the technical, the physical. Dew-T is holding the chain that keeps Kira a prisoner of these aspects of life, even during her sleep. As a phoenix, Lehava represents rebirth, a new beginning, a new hope. It also represents freedom. Freedom from those chains. So, Lehava is there to influence Dew-T to release the chains. The pose of Dew-T seems to mean submission to this command, so there is hope. But Kira has to watch out because the crystals seem to surround her and seem to give her no space to get up and leave that bed. So, the hope is really confined to her bed, and thus to her sleep. She is free, but only in her dreams...

Spectacular in terms of visual perception is the most appropiate word for this image. My English is poor, cannot extent too much on comments, so I´d say that I coincide with Rutra´s interpretation almost 100%. But the truth is that I´m so impressed with the artistic magnificence of this image by now that I´d leave deeper thoughts to rest a while.

since everyone's commented on the meanings, which i basically agree with, i think i'll comment on the technical points. i love the contrast between the orange and yellow and the turquoise of the crystals. you've really succeeded in making Lehava (and her clothes/rays) seem like the light source. the wings or drapery on her makes a wonderfully interesting shape and dynamic line. i think Lehava's clothes (on her torso) and boots conflict with the style of the character by being very straight and boxy cut instead of having longer, more curving and more irregular lines to them. conversely, the headdress is perfect for a bird inspired character. i think your procedural materials and textures are very good, but i can't wait until you master them even further. i love how the floating pictures and bed outline an invisible wall, which forms another strong diagonal. personally, this image has the sort of boundless yet enclosed feeling many of my dreams do, and i'm amazed that you could actually depict such a paradoxical space. i really wish i could see the two pictures more clearly, so i hope they go up in their own right. or should i look further at your gallery? i totally understand what you mean about technical skills. i'm pretty sure mine will never get to the point of my imaginings and dreams. though if they do, i'm pretty sure i'll scare a lot of people.
