Description

That's Ian Anderson on the left and Martin Barre on electric guitar. The group Jethro Tull is approaching their 40th year as a band, and this is a shot of them taken last December 8th at the Saenger Theatre (built in 1927) in Mobile, Alabama. The band in their day were a powerful force in the late 60's and 70's progressive rock movement, and continued strongly through the 80's as well. Although these days Ian Anderson, the founder of Jethro Tull, is an extremely successful businessman running a whole conglomerate of companies back in England, the band still tours and records because they want to, not because they have to. The long hair was gone and to be honest Ian's once strong piercing voice wasn't what it used to be either, but his flute playing was as bad ass as ever! And the band as a whole lived up to my memories of what Jethro Tull was all about, having seen them several times in the 70's. And the new music, while more instrumental, had that same powerful "Tull" feel to it. Ian Anderson is the showman consummate musical madman. Between songs he told amusing stories from the old days and had the audience always laughing. His ease in front of everyone made us all feel like we were right at home in a living room type setting. So rock on Ian & Martin! It's always nice to see longevity in a world that changes most times way too fast. If Jethro Tull comes to your area, do yourself a favor and go see the band. Quality is timeless. Oh yes, cameras were allowed as long as no flash was used. marshall

Well, okay. If you're going to stop with the house, this is certainly a good way to hold my attention! I've seen Tull live many times - they were my favorite band of that era. I was a flautist back then, and Ian Anderson is just IT! Awesome shot. Thanks for posting this!

Ian and the band itself certainly still lead the way. They show how to live the music and live fully and be able to continue as long as they have. Solid image you caught here. And thanks for bringing back a few older memories.
