Description

I used this image as one of the hanging pictures in 'Come with me Kira'. thumb_1590876.jpg I'm posting it so it can be seen clearer. This piece was created using the Chinese knotting technique to form the phoenix and silk painting for the background. I used to create various items with the western knotting technique 'Macrame' and only recently discovered the craft of Chinees knotting. The oriental craft is so much more sophisticated! It is amazingly intricate and requires patience and concentration.(I do it when I need calming down and stress relief, like a form of meditation, and usually it does the trick). In this piece the head, body and wings are all done with one continuous cord. This is the most complicated item I managed to do so far, but I've seen pictures of items much more intricate. Comments of any kind are always very welcome. EDIT: The diameter of this item is 18"

The beautiful background sets off your little knotted phoenix so well. Very creative work. You have a wonderful versatile gallery and are very talented.

i love the combination of the yellow yarn and the blue and violet watercolor. it's a simple effect, but i'm also very drawn to the foam on the waves. and the flow and form of the phoenix is just perfect. it does look very intricate. i love the way the top swirl is ambiguous: is it the sun or part of the phoenix. it connects rebirth to sunrise and sunset. the background scenery is interesting. it makes me think of what it would look like if there were suddenly an ocean abutting the mesas and mountains of Arizona. i think it's beautiful.
