Description

Taken during a snowshoe hike last winter to Trillium Lake, the same place where I shot this one last November. We do these night hikes when there's a full moon, which explains the brightness of the scene even though it's a night shot. When I was prepping this one I brightened it a little and it really looked like daytime with stars in the sky. A bit odd, to say the least. :-) This was about a four-second exposure, and just in case you're wondering, yes, I carry my tripod on snowshoe hikes in the dark LOL. Thanks for looking and any comments.

I can hear how quiet it is there. That is an absolutely breathtaking shot, my friend. If someone had asked me if you took your tripod when you went snowshoeing in the mountains in the middle of the night, I would have said, "of course he does!" There wouldn't have been a doubt in my mind. :)

A beautiful shot. You had me faked out at first before I realized what you were talking about. Had to reach back to my astronomy classes to realize what you were talking about. That was before I opened the picture. It looks crystal clear and it looks cold - I can just imagine the snow crunching under your boots. On my recent trip to Oberammergau we had clear skies on Christmas Eve with a full moon (according to my nephew it was the first time he can remember) that they had a full moon AND a clear sky for Christmas Eve. They go cross-country skiing by full moon, or attach some special skins - I think - to the bottom of their skies that allows them to go up ski slope on their skies and then ski downhill by moon light.

Very impressive capture, love to see both the landscape and the stars in the sky, not easy to combine them in one shot but you succeeded very well! :)

Beautiful image. It's been years since I have seen Mt. Hood, but I never saw it at night, and only from the car. What a landmark, and the night shot is fantastic. :o) Excellent.
