Description

** Please view full sized ** This was taken on Sunday (today, for me) at Cape Disappointment, at the mouth of the Columbia River on the Washington side. The only thing recognizable as a boat is acutally an ocean-going tug pushing four loaded barges. The other five lights are smaller boats, probably fishing boats, lined up to cross the bar and head home for the night. On the right is the north jetty. I was going to crop it out, but I decided to leave it in to supply some scale. This isn't the most colorful image, but that's what winter sunsets look like here. Thanks for stopping by and any comments.

I like the sky in this, and I especially like the 5 lights. I don't know why, but I do.

You have captured the vastness of the ocean. A very open mood goes with this.

"Sunset and evening star" This may be the most well known bar in the country. What a fantastic image. The sunset is not one of those blazing, in your face performances, but instead a lovely gentle one with enough color to satisfy and the single 'boat' and multiple small lights add interest. Beauty!

A beautiful shot. Brings back memories when I was looking toward the west, either from Paine Field or Mukilteo, looking for a ray of sunlight and hoping for blue sky. Of course, most of the time the blue sky never reached us. I have seen many sunsets like this in winter- and in summer. I think leaving the north jetty in was a good idea. This is one of the better days, you have good vidsibility. Thanks for sharing, Sig....

I recognize these kind of sunsets! It's nice you got the lights on those fishing boats to add to the sparkle! Hope you're enjoying your evening, it's blowing up a gale here right now!!! I expect a power outage any minute!

Beautiful. You're right about seeing this in full view - it was like instant relaxation. Those beautiful, familiar colors, the clouds piling up along the coast ... I just love the limited color pallet of this area in winter. It's so restful. Thanks for sharing this beautiful view, my friend. You've soothed a bit of my soul today.

'Home is the sailor...' This is lovely. I always liked to watch the ships come in.
