Description

2008 has become a year of strange directions. It started on the night that Prague lit the sky with blossoms of colored fire and sulfurous smoke. It continues…. In the long days between my last post and this one, I’ve met amazing, new friends--two of whom I’ve made a short movie with. I’m not returning to the USA, at least not soon, which means that I’m looking for a way to get legal work and an apartment. Funny thing is, I have a potential roommate--at least until summer. She’s my director and co-writer in one film project and a few proposals discussed over beer. It’s because of the film that I’m making this post. I’m writing this to the mixed intensities of Patti Smith, Jimi Hendricks, Cocorosie, and bear McCreary’s haunting score to the Battlestar Galactica tv series. I’m thinking of Nemaea and a zillion other things. I’m thinking of my friend Pavl (he doesn’t know about the movie) and I’m thinking about my closer friend, Victor. He doesn’t know about the movie, either--and I want HIM in our next one. The film is a short work, an audition piece, essentially. The “The Border” is simply my own working title, strictly for the sake of the piece posted here. It’s up to the actual director to come up with a name. I just helped work out the continuity/writing and acted--and rendered a fake poster. My co-star in the film is a new friend, one of the few I’ve shared so intense a bond with in so short a time. Filming rather challenging scenes does that to you, and if my friend Pavl was French-Canadian, he‘d share a frightening number of qualities with Pierre-Marc. That‘s a good thing, though, and I‘m glad that Prague (being a city of thresholds) has opened strange doors for me to walk through. And I’m glad that I got to meet Pierre-Marc and Marie in the process of crossing ONE particular threshold. (Now if only Marie and I can get that commune thing started--but THAT is another story!) The photography in this work reflects the mood and a few plot points of the film itself. If it’s accepted, Marie gets to work with big name people in Germany, and get her career going. Upon acceptance, she’ll have to expand the film into a two hour feature, and in that hopeful event, I’ll probably wind up acting again, though I have to admit that I prefer a different (though equally challenging) role. The main reason behind that is simply because my co-star may be unavailable, and I don't want to do our shared scenes with someone else. Though we’re remaining in touch…it’s not likely that he’ll be back in Europe at the hoped-for time of filming the actual feature. But don’t worry, I’ve written another juicy role for myself and it involves an emotionally intense plot twist; I love those, and if all goes right, I get to do a “bar fight” scene as well. *** Happy new year to Everyone, and I’ll be catching up on missed posts as soon as I am able. Right now, I’m just sending this rendition out, because of the overwhelming urge to “show something” that serves as a marker to the intense and fulfilling two weeks I got to spend with Marie and Pierre-Marc in my favorite city. As always, thank you for viewing and commenting, and may everyone reading this have a fantastic year!

Hello its nice to see a change of work on here. Not many people tend to upload movie posters that I have seen, particularly for your own film idea. Overall I really like the poster, but in my opinion I would loose the two images of the guys at the bottom of the page. It makes the picture feel more amatuer. The composition actually reminds me a little of the "Munich" poster. Loose the two guys and excellent work. As a young filmmaker myself seeking work I would be interested to hear more about what you actually do in the industry and how you have made connections. If you have time be good if you could message me. Cheers Matt

I like the poster and concept it presents overall, but I'd have to agree with some of the others, the bottom figures don't quite fit and detract from an otherwise excellent poster. As to the project itself, I definitely wish you luck, I'd see the movie if it ever wound it's way to my corner of the globe. (and everyone loooves a bar fight!)
