I'm a software engineer by day. I spend my time pushing ones and zeros around, which is not as easy as it sounds. They're slippery little devils.BIOI discovered fractals in the mid 80's with Fractint on what must have been a 25 MHz processor. Around 2001 I upgraded all the way from 400 MHz to 1.8 GHz, and thought about making fractals again. I discovered Fractal Explorer, and later XenoDream. These days I use mostly XD and MBF, with an occasional image from ChaosPro and Quasz, since I've always loved quaternions.
For my photography I use a Canon 30D. My primary lenses are a Canon 70-300mm f/4.5-5.6 EF DO IS USM and a Canon 24-105 f/4 L IS USM.

What a pretty picture with the lighthouse beacon shining brightly , the trees, and the pink in the sky. And your history lesson was very interesting.

the touches of pink sky give a certain mood to this shot that would not be there otherwise. It changes it so you get a feeling up hope. Great shot.

This is a beautiful shot and and thanks for the background information. What is a 1st order light, or a 4th order light. Is a 4th order light more powerful? Sig...

Here's what I found about Fresnel lens order on Wikipedia "Fresnel's lighthouse lenses fell into six orders based on their focal length. The largest (first order) lens has a focal length of 920 mm (36 in), and an optical area 2590 mm (8.5 ft) high. The complete assembly is about 3.7 m (12 ft) tall and 1.8 m (6 ft) wide. The smallest (sixth order) has a focal length of 150 mm (5.9 in) and an optical area 433 mm (17 in) high."

a beautiful landscape thank you

Beautiful shot!!!! I love how there is enough light to show the magnificent sky and dark enough for the lighthouse to really stand out! I wish I had gotten the chance to see some of these while I was in that area, but alas I didn't. So thanks for sharing this beauty, Dennis!
