Description

A viiw of Mullion Cove with it's wonderful little working harbour, protected from such winter gales that rage across Mount's Bay by two strong and solid sea walls. Even the seagulls are sitting this one out! The harbour was completed in 1895 and financed by Lord Robartes of Lanhydrock House (at Bodmin the Town, where I was born), which like this little harbour is a part of the National trust.. I gather from the locals it was as recompense to the fishermen for several disastrous pilchard seasons, in order for them to be able to survive the harsh times.. Out of view are the old pilchard and net stores which I may show another time.. Many tales of smuggling too. The most noted was in 1801, the King's Pardon was offered to any smuggler giving information on the Mullion Musket Men, who were involved in a gunfight with the crew of HM Gun Vessel Hecate.
