Well I haven't an SLR and never used one, but this is a stunning macro ! I'm sure we are going to see a lot more from your new toy.

wonderful macro. And amazingly they will improve with practice although it seems nothing could top this one.

I really like your photo. The only little thing I would suggest is not to blur so much, but it is minor. Congratulations!

Fab first attempt. The settings you have used allow for a short depth of field (ie: not much in focus) and these settings are ideal for perople, etc but not great for macro subjects (unless that is what you intended). I am also a canon user and do alot of macros (happy to discuss more by email if u like). For macros, if you want more detail (ie: more in focus) you will need to use "manual mode" with a tripod, at a much higher f stop (say f16) and a much longer exposure (maybe 1 second or more depending on the lighting), and iso 200 for dark conditions (in shadows). They say overcast daylight is the best for bugs as you waont get sun spot reflectsions (white outs). When taking a test shop, chjeck it using your histogram on the camera to see if its too dark (to the left) or too bright to the right and then increase (if too dark) or decrease (if too bright) the exposeure time accoprdingly. If hand held try 1/100 sec, iso 200 and say f10 in good daylight conditions, its just testing by trial and error really. Hope that helps Love to see more of the results!! cheers Louise

A lovely little macro and I love that eye. I have never used one of those macro cameras so I'm afraid I can't help either. You will enjoy practicing.

I agree a bit more in focus would be nice but I know from my own experience depending on your camera, lens and such you might not be able to get more depth of field. Otherwise you did get a very nice shot.
