A principal character from the Twilight Blades, a D&D Forgotten Realms campaign set in Aglarond. ““Wait just a moment!” Rynard objected, as Courynn strode past him, rushing to catch the beautiful half-elf. “She serves the Masters of the Yuirwood,” Courynn paused and turned back toward the young mage, “and knows the secrets of the menhir.” Rynard had studied what little was known of the ancient stone circles left by the former residents of the Yuirwood, and the thought of learning their secrets appealed to him. “Very well then,” he announced with authority, rushing forward to catch them. “Since she will have value to our quest, she may accompany us.” If Talice heard him, she showed no sign, but slowed her pace enough for the men to catch her. “You have much to learn of the Yuir,” Courynn admonished Rynard. “Any privilege you hold beyond these woods will do you little good here.” “I carry the authority of the Simbul’s council,” Rynard shot back. “I’m sure a dragon will hold that distinction in high regard,” Courynn countered. “It is a dragon!” Talice stopped, her voice tinged with fear. “Are you certain?” “That is what I have been sent to determine.” Rynard informed her, but Talice’s eyes stayed lock on Courynn. “A young one,” Courynn replied, his voice carrying both confidence and concern. “But a dragon none the same... A green most likely.” Talice turned to face Rynard for the first time, the amused smile gone from her face. “You had better have more then the council’s authority,” she challenged. “You had better be ready to die for those who dwell in these woods!” Rynard met her stare… not flinching under its weight. But in the deepest corner of his mind, he asked himself… was he?” A son of old Velprin's noble blood, raised in the city of Furthinghome, Rynard’s talent for the Art (magic) made him an outcast in his own home. Sent to Velprintalar in his early teens, he found acceptance amongst the students of the Simbul for the first time in his life. Although he often seems a pompous aristocrat, Rynard is not as shallow as he might appear, and views his service to Aglarond as the duty of the privileged (i.e. a mage). Drawn into the Twilight Blades as it formed, Rynard quickly learned that there is more to life then the Art, and true nobility is defined by ones actions, not his blood. Still an outsider in the Yuirwood, he sees the coming strife between the coastal cities and the woodlands more clearly then any of his companions, and knows that the Simbul alone holds Aglarond together.
