Description
I posted a Juvenile White Crowned Sparrow earlier, this is an adult; as the plumage of the male and female are the same they are hard to tell apart; the difference is the males are a little bigger. My guess is this is a female she appeared to be smaller than some of the other ones in the yard. An Interesting fact about the male White Crowned Sparrow is that they learn their basic song in the first 2 or 3 months of they're life and carry it into adulthood. They don't learn the song directly from their father but from the generalized song environment in the natal neighborhood. Because male White Crowned Sparrows learn their song they grow up with and do not travel very far from where they were raised, song dialects frequently form. Males living on the edge of two dialects my become bilingual and sing in both dialects. These are migratory and are only here through the winter months. Thanks for your views and for your comments.
