Description

It is, perhaps, one of the most enduring legends of humanity's travels. The idea resurfaces again and again, from people stranded in between destinations to ghost ships in the dark. For me it was a myth reflective of our longing to, and fear of, travel. Then a ship came through the portal from one of the outer-reaches of human space. And this was, perhaps, the ghost ship made real. Only 10 of these were built by Extrasolar Developments, in the exciting days when the portals were first invented and suddenly the stars might really be reachable. Seven of them were scrapped over a century ago. One slowly spirals to its eventual doom in the atmosphere of Jupiter after her captain made an unwise decision 110 years ago. One sits in the Smithsonian's collection at the Lagrange Museum Depot. And one was sold to Dr Rephi Muiniche's eldest son, 95 years ago. He and his family disappeared through the portals, and were presumed lost long before I was even born. Yet here it is. Suddenly returned only a few months after the settling of our first Interstellar War. Bringing what it says is a message of hope. But who is flying this relic of the long-past? ----------------------- I can never seem to get some of our legends out of my mind, and I wanted to make a scene that evoked the Flying Dutchman, while carrying mystery along with it. The ship is modeled in Bryce, Textures are a mix of presets and some that I altered. The starscape and planet were done in Photoshop, partly with the Plugins "Glitterato" and "Lunarcell" and party through use of layers and such. Thanks for taking a look, I like the direction this story is going so I'll probably revisit it sometime in the future.

Awesome render~ Full view shows great detail in the ship and starfield. I like the POV and the composition with the ship close up. Terrific story too!

This ship is very well modelled and the mats are very believable,like the emphasis on ship by blurring background slightly-very effective!

Your starship is once again a super design. The surface mats you have used on it really show a feeling of time's decay. Like the vapor trail from its power source and the overall ATMOS is very fitting to the scene.

Fantastic modeling, I love uneven texture of the hull plates and the overall sense of scale and proportion. The piece is fantastic and the writing that accompanies it is top notch. Fantastic work all around!
