Description

Another shot in the Vance house/mansion series. In the middle of the newel are two handcarved emblems/insignias or whatever it's called. One of the carving looks like a snowflake while the other is of a man wearing a headdress of some kind. Until recently the newel here was covered in layers of paint that hid the beautiful carvings. I can't imagine why anyone would want to do that but at least now it's been/will be restored to it's natural state. Click below for a different view of this beautiful staircase - "A House Renewed"

Isn't it incredible what people have done to these magnificent houses? I live in an area with many Victorian homes, lived in one when I first moved here, and saw the "improvements" made. ugh. But then other people come back, see thru the paint and the dirt and whatever else has covered it up, and you get pieces like this one - craftsmanship at its finest!! Great shot, Leah!!
