As joint officers of the watch, while everyone else remains in cryogenic stasis, Henrietta and Francine divide their duties equally, except in the areas of catering and space-walking. Henrietta knows that Francine would live on the toxic waste known as "Instant Nutrition", if left to her own devices. Since Megalopolis IV can furnish just about any food ingredient imaginable and has a lavishly equipped, completely deserted galley, Henrietta doesn't just offer to prepare proper meals; she absolutely insists on it. In return, Francine will take care of any space-walking that needs to be done, because she knows, from their Academy days, that the starship duty that fills Henrietta with dread is the one that involves going outside, feeling simultaneously claustrophobic in the spacesuit and agoraphobic in space.
