Description

This is at the edge of Humboldt Bay, south of Eureka, California. It was low tide, and this fence just disappeared into the mud flats. It was either pasture land that had been swallowed by the bay waters, or the fence got moved during a very high tide, or a big storm. However it happened, it makes for a great foto!!

May well be global warming effect, our streams and rivers are running at three, four, five times the levels that they used to do at this time of year. The River Roche that runs through the very center of our town is running twenty feet above normal, for this time of year. It burst its banks in several places but I was too ill to go and take pictures. I have to agree with you though Marilyn, it does make a great foto, I for one would not like to hike acrosss those flats. It looks OK as an image, but I wouldn't want to get swollowed up in the mud. Excellent capture love the colour caste. Bravo!!!!!

You're right, Marilyn. It makes a great capture and gets one thinking about how the fence got there, as you said.

Yep, I wonder how the fence got there but it certainly makes this photo, makes the eyes follow it all the way out to the muddy waters. Tony :-)

This is a gorgeous shot, Marilyn...the color of the water gives the feeling of such incredible depth, and the colors everywhere else all compliment that definition. I am intrigued by the history of that fence...where it came from and what it's doing there, but then great photographs always inspire such ruminations. What's funny though is for some reason, this image seems like it would fit perfectly with a song like "House of the Rising Sun" despite the radical difference in subject matter. I have no idea how any of that really relates to this photo, but there you have it...my mind goes off in strange directions! Anyway, BACK to the subject: this is a fantastic post, and the sense of color and depth is outstanding! Great, heady stuff, with or without a non-matching soundtrack.

Stellar POV, DOF, mood color blends, clarity, and shore/water textural effects in this fine capture, Marilyn! Love that weather-beaten foreground!

I love the colors in the fence against the color of the water. The bits of grasses are just wonderful in this outstanding composition.
