Description

From yesterdays Photograph of this scene, here is the painting. Acrylic, hand painted on canvas, the only postwork is the addition of the frame from Paintshop pro 9. 5 years ago I was introduced to an Art group specifically for people who had Mental Health problems. 5 years previous to that, doctors had diagnosed Schizophrenia. The first six months at the group I just sat there, my hands shook so much from heavy medication I couldn't hold a brush or pencil and was too frightened anyway. A change of medication and gentle persuasion they got me to pencil sketch and later I began painting, something I hadn't done since my childhood. That group closed down last year. I go to another one which is for anyone with Physical or Mental issues who will probably never work again. I met Jeff (JeffG7BRJ) there so together we have incorporated photography into the art and crafts Club. Thanks for all advice and comments to date, I can't tell you what a great help it is...Alan.

Spot on Alan but then I know how good you are! You have a fantastic talent as far as your painting goes, and your photography has improved no ends. It has always been good, in my oppinion, but now it's getting superlatives like, great, superb, fantastic, excellent, awesome. Fantastic painting, excellent photograph, and wonderful presentation, coupled with an informative narrative. Top notch stuff in my book. Bravo!!!!!

Oh my gosh! When you said you had painted those horses, I had no idea!! I was expecting a nice little painting, perhaps something about which I could honestly say, "Oh this is very pretty." But Wow! This is absolutely stunning. I like your painting even more than I like the original photograph. The light is so well done (and you KNOW how much I love good light!) that the painting glows in a way the photo doesn't. Superb work. Top-notch. You have no idea how impressed I am! Thank you for sharing some of your history with us, my friend. I admire your honesty as well as your talent.

You are a great artist my friend! And wonderful that you told us about your heath, it’s not an easy thing to do. I am not good in writing my feelings but for me you are a hero. If I could paint like that I never make a render again.

Both the photograph and the painting are excellent, but I like your painting better than the photo Alan. You have added a few extra ripples in the water that really enhance the image. Do you paint to help dealing with your mental issue, or have you thought of selling some of the pictures? You have real talent. I am glad that you got together with Jeff and decided to incorporate photography into your work and share it with us. I enjoy looking at your uploads, and always appreciated the background information. Thanks Alan, Sig...

Ok, I'm late finding this but the important part is ... I found it! I'm totally blown away but this! I have to agree, I think this is better than the photo. I used to sketch horses many years ago. I studied books and my own horses for muscle structure and breeding but I was never able to put the whole animal together like you have here. That's why I take photos - because I do not have the talent inside to make what I see come out on canvass. Gosh, you have such a talent. Do you sell your work? I'd love to see more! I am touched you shared so much of yourself and your health issues. It shows that not only are you a talented person, you are a good person and one I am very proud to know.

This is wonderful!! Sorry about your past troubles, and I do hope it is all in the past. I have relatives with mental problems of various sorts. I think the saddest of those is my nephew, a functional autistic, but it is still difficult. Just don't stop painting! You have a wonderful talent, and perhaps that is the best part of all, and that you can do it in spite of everything else.
